Earlier today, Mr. Khan had issued an announcement indicating that his company will no longer provide fighters with guaranteed contracts for guaranteed fights. With the exception of inaugural champions Cayden Redfield and Mila Sauvage who were signed on for five fight deals after winning the tournament worth 1.2 million dollars each the company has decided that they will move to pay per fight performance setup exclusively moving forward.
''Nobody values contracts anymore.'' Mr. Khan explained. ''If a fighter signs an exclusive deal, how exclusive is it really? If that fighters wakes up tomorrow and decides he does not want to fight anymore or for your promotion, what choice are you left with? You cannot take it to the courts because you will be raked over the coals by the fans and social media to the point where it isn't worth the bad press. You can't make a fighter who doesn't want to fight, fight.''
Mr. Khan however embraces this reality. ''We as a company are always looking to adapt with our hand always on the pulse. The fighters have all the control and you as the owner, you need to just accept that. As a result, we will pay our fighters on a per appearance basis allowing them the freedom to do what they wish beyond the GCC cage.''
When asked if he was worried about losing his talent to the competition he responded, ''Not at all. Our product will speak for itself when it's all said and done. Anyone trying to use a contract as a chain or as the means to keep their talent in their cage branded with their own logos in the year 2019 has it all wrong.''
This news is sure to shake up the MMA world as fans and other fighters will surely weigh into this discussion for weeks to come.
