no cause for celebration

It was announced earlier today that current GCC featherweight champion, Misty DeMeans has agreed to a fight against number one contender Jessica House after a month of negations. This coming after a myriad of social media posts mocking the GCC and her opponents, public ally scoffing at the idea that she would be stripped of her championship by the GCC for refusing to defend it. While President Khan must be relieved and the fans now have a time, place and date I hate that I have to be the guy to say it... We are no closer to the fight happening then we were a month ago. Why is that you ask? Well, you're talking about Misty DeMeans. For one, the girl is far smarter then she initially lets on. Hate her or hate her, she knows what she's doing and she know's how to extract the most amount of money of promoters pockets as evidenced by the fact she's already the highest paid fighter in GCC history. After the announcement made by GCC, Misty made it no secret that just because she agreed to fight Jessica House on July 3rd at GCC 10 doesn't mean she was going too.

It appears that Misty agreeing to fight Jessica House was merely a ploy to hold onto her GCC featherweight championship after a deadline had been set by the GCC. This likely will allow her lawyers to put together a solid case for why she should not have to defend her GCC featherweight championship during the pandemic. The GCC has not held any shows in front of a live crowd since April 22 in Ireland. Unlike other popular sports the gate does not make up a significant portion of GCC's total revenue which is mainly earned through splat fight pass subscriptions and advertisements. It will be a tough sell for the 20 year old and her lawyers because while the GCC cannot legally force Misty DeMeans to fight against her will, championships are not part of the deal or contract. Championships are

treated as a bonus or reward by the promotions itself. This means that if

Misty DeMeans is going to make a legal case here she's going to have to

get creative. Surprisingly, it is believed that her lawyers will be using her

previous steroid scandal to her advantage. You see, the fight is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi where there is no drug testing carried about by an official sporting commission. It is likely that her lawyers will make the case that holding the fight in Abu Dhabi leaves her open to defamation, slander and libel by the media and her peers. I reached out to her legal team and they issued the following statement. ''We do have plenty of concerns regarding where President Khan wants to host this fight. Abu Dhabi has no athletic commission. Due to the nasty, vicious, lies spread about our client by a less than savory mma promotion - having her turn around and compete in an environment where such rumors could once again run rampant may further damage our clients reputation beyond repair. Our client wants her fans to rest assured that she is being drug tested rigorously so that there are no doubts that she is one of the greatest professional athletes of our time. When our client agreed to fight for the GCC she was under a reasonable expectation that the fights would not occur in Abu Dhabi per her private conversations with President Khan.'' My personal opinion? I say wait until the champions ready! At a time where millions of Americans and people globally are out of working, sitting at home due to the corona virus it is unethical to demand that she takes the same risks that we don't have too while we are sheltered at home. Although GCC is known to have amazing safety protocols in place for the fighters competing, fighters can easily contract the virus leaving to and from the gym or rolling with their teammates in preparation for their bouts. While we may not agree with her decision to stay home we should all respect it!
