Hello everybody. This month I sat down with upcoming featherweight title challenger Jessica 'Big Mama' House. She is a woman who has had a very prosperous combat sports career that has spanned many years, with many more to come.
Her combat sports journey started at a very early age. Her father (whom Jessica affectionately referred to as Daddy) was a combat sports fan/athlete himself. Jessica told me that around age two he began to realize she was naturally gifted, and started her on the road she still travels today.
Throughout her childhood, Jessica grew increasingly more in love with combat sports mainly boxing. At the age of twenty, encouraged mainly by her own passion and her father, she began to box at the amateur level, and by the end of her amateur boxing career she had amassed a record of 12-5.
We also spoke briefly of her time competing in foxy boxing. I was curious about what drew her to the sport…
"As far as foxy boxing goes I saw an ad in my boxing gym and decided to give it a go as something different."
And something different it was indeed. I asked Jessica if she felt like people didn't take the women seriously because of the boxing style. She simply shrugged her shoulders, and gave me the rundown...
"Now most people come to our shows and feel it's going to be this fake tap each other, act like it hurts sort of thing, but it is a real fight."
After talking to Jessica House I feel that if anybody questions the legitimacy of foxy boxing, they need to box some of those women, they won't question it's legitimacy anymore.
Now if you've heard of Jessica House, you know foxy boxing wasn't the end of her combat sports career. In August 2019 Big Mama signed a multi-fight contract to appear in global combat championships. Her first two fights took place at GCC 1 also known as sweet 16, competing in the featherweight tournament, and it's worth noting Jessica became the first person to win a fight under the GCC banner when she defeated Harmony Joplin.
While Jessica was able to defeat Harmony Joplin that night, she unfortunately fell to Krystal Knight in the semifinal round. She followed this performance up with a win and a loss, and that's when she joined up with T.W Combat Sports. Following her decision to join T.W Combat, she went on a three fight winning streak defeating such competitors as Trixie Redd and Renegade Kali, earning herself a shot at the featherweight title. However here's where things have gotten a little confusing.
In April 2020 the covid-19 pandemic struck. Due to said pandemic the champion Misty DeMeans, was refusing to fight until December 2020. During this time Jessica House had taken a sabbatical from T.W Combat Sports so she could stay in her hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada to be with her family. This is when she began training at the Splatterhouse MMA gym.
Here's where it gets weirder.
In early June it was announced via a conference call that Jessica House had moved permanently to Splatterhouse MMA, prompting Misty DeMeans to claim a breach of contract.
However, as we all know, the fight is now finalized, and is set to take place at GCC 10, but there's a problem...
Only Misty DeMeans knows if she'll show up or not.
Regarding all of the delays, uncertainties, and Misty's comments related to her holding up the division until December, this is what Jessica had to say…
"I'm devastated. I don't know what to say, I don't know how anybody can call themselves a champion and act like that. She has ridiculed me, and did her best to string me along for all these months. I'm going to make her pay in blood for everything she said, for everything she's done, for all the mean, cruel things she's posted on social media. I hope she's prepared to pay for her cruelty because on July 3rd that's exactly what she'll be doing."
Strong emotional words from Jessica 'Big Mama' House.
It was such a blessing to sit down with this woman. Don't forget to watch her at GCC 10 as she attempts to capture the GCC featherweight championship.
