Fazan al-Khan called a press conference to discuss the Global Combat Championships Women’s Featherweight Division. While the champion of the division claims to have retired, Mr. Khan must look toward the future. He explained that Misty DeMeans has yet to forfeit the featherweight title despite being “retired.” Fazan seemed very excited as he explained that a number one contender would be decided very soon.
On March 12th Gaia Galanos and Jessica House will fight in the main event of Global Fight Night 18 to decide the number one contender to Misty’s featherweight title. What’s interesting is both women undoubtedly foaming at the mouth to get redemption against the seemingly infallible Misty DeMeans—who claims to have retired completely from the sport.
Big Mama’s Rebound TKO
In recent memory, DeMeans shocked the world when she tapped out Jessica House at GCC 10. House wasn’t down and out; however, she turned back around and finished Krystal Knight in impressive fashion with a huge TKO stoppage, allowing her to retain her number one contender’s spot. There doesn’t seem to be many who can boast that they belong in the title picture after Misty DeMeans retained against Juanita Sanchez just last month.
Gaia’s Journey Back
Gaia’s road to redemption has been a lot longer as the fallen champion looks to get another win in a continuous string of victories after dropping two straight over the summer. She’s currently sitting at 3 consecutive victories, matching her first string of victories in GCC before losing the featherweight championship to Misty DeMeans. Most recently, Galanos took Rupika Khan to a unanimous decision victory. Gaia looked to be in her old form as she defeated her House of Khan rival in dominant fashion.
So now, we find ourselves on the receiving end of a real treat: Gaia Galanos versus Jessica House. Both of these fighters have been with the company since nearly the beginning. House has been with GCC a little bit longer than Galanos, but these are certainly GCC originals. They will fight to decide the number one contender to Misty DeMeans’ featherweight title. Each fighter is going to be tested. Whoever comes out victorious will undoubtedly be the one who needs to fight Misty next, both of these fighters have busted their asses to get here.
I spoke with Gaia about her reaction to the announcement of the fight, and she seemed very enthusiastic about it. Galanos looks forward to fighting Big Mama, a woman who has become a big favorite with the fans and the fighters. Gaia said "personal feelings aside though, Big Mama is going to tap."
A Fight Night to Remember
Some may wonder though because Jessica House sports one of the most dangerous striking games in the whole division, and Gaia Galanos has had some suspect performances against some of the companies most notorious strikers in Alexia Amauri and the featherweight champion Misty DeMeans.
Either way, March 12th is going to be a Global Fight Night to remember.
