Challenge accepted, Juanita Sanchez & Rupika Khan scheduled for GCC 10 super card on July 3rd.
At the GCC 8 press conference Juanita Sanchez had called out Rupika Khan for a fight. After much deliberation, Rupika Khan has accepted the fight and it will become a reality on July 3rd at GCC 10. While Juanita Sanchez is expected to be a heavy favorite in the match up, Rupika Khan feels that a win over Juanita Sanchez will put her firmly in a position for a featherweight title shot in a stacked division with plenty of star and fire power to go around.
THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY?
The GCC were said to be in talks with the first ever GCC featherweight champion Mila Sauvage on a return to the octagon. It seems that fight talks have since broken down which would have saw the former champ go head to head with rising star, Atara Themis. It is not known on whether or not Atara Themis will be scheduled to fight at GCC 10 although GCC officials see value in her star power and are expected to find her a marquee level match up.
Alejandro Rivera vs. Jay Aguero for the GCC heavyweight championship scheduled for GCC 11.
With a marquee fight between former GCC heavyweight champion Erik Malkasian and rising star Ross Hanson being announced as the headliner for GFN 10, it appears that Jay Aguero has done enough to impress GCC officials as if they've granted him a title fight against Alejandro Rivera. The two had faced off against each other earlier this year which saw Alejandro Rivera mostly dominate the fight due to a high volume of heavy leg kicks that immobilized the new perfection over the course of three rounds. Since then his team has insisted that he is a better fighter and Jay Aguero boasts a two fight win streak with his most recent win over JaySon Francis at GFN 8 in April. The title fight has been scheduled for August 7th in Abu Dhabi.
Christian Ibanez will defend his GCC Middleweight Championship against Clive Hicks at GCC 12.
Despite the calls by Christian Ibanez to GCC to put a title defense on as quickly as possible it appears that Christian Ibanez will not defend his GCC title until September although an official date has not been set in stone. His opponent will be against a national state wrestler in Clive Hicks who boasts a GCC 3-1 professional record. Aside from Clive Hicks there are not a long of list of contenders in the division at the moment which likely why the fight has been pushed back several months which should give the middleweight division more opportunity for growth.
