Abu Dhabi—Very early this morning, a heated altercation took place between #4-ranked Heavyweight Contender Aleksandr Baranov and #5-ranked Heavyweight Contender Ross Hanson at the Global Training Facility. These two fighters are booked to fight one another at GCC 8 in Abu Dhabi May 8. The brief scuffle was quickly broken up before either fighter could do any damage to the other.
Reports say that Aleksandr Baranov showed up to the Global Training Facility during Ross Hanson’s scheduled training period in a mask with wolf fangs on it. Witnesses claim that Baranov came with another who held a smartphone to record the incident. Those present claim Baranov incited the altercation by making remarks to the American fighter about his training history woes and it seems remarks about Hanson’s family which may have hit a nerve. Shortly after the exchanged words, eye witnesses say there was a short physical altercation between the two fighters who are set to fight May 8th before they were separated.
As Hanson was being restrained by his coach and others who had come on the scene to stop the altercation one thing was very clear, this fight needs to happen. And, it will happen May 8th at GCC 8.
Neither fighter nor his camp could be reached for comment as of this point. More information will be released as it unfolds.
