Post-Match
After Alexia Amauri’s arm is raised, Galanos drops her head in disappointment. She nodded understandably then embraced Amauri and congratulated her on the victory. Sean Alexander immediately caught up with Gaia Galanos before she left the octagon. She clearly seemed frustrated. The fight clearly could have gone either way, but the bleeding on her face had likely been the deciding factor. As Sean rested a hand on her shoulder, the former champion turned toward him.
Sean Alexander: Gaia, tough split decision loss tonight. Both of you impressed to no end. Fight of the Night. What’s on your mind right now?
Galanos took a breath and suddenly it seemed as though the Spartan was much more collected.
Gaia Galanos: The judges didn’t go my way tonight. I’m sorry to all of my fans who paid to see a victory for my corner. Congratulations once again to Alexia. She really worked hard. We both did. I was able to put her on the ground constantly. Objectively, this fight could have gone either way, but there are things I could have done to ensure the victory for my corner. Unfortunately, I didn’t do those things. With that said, there were some great things that came out of this as well. I was 100% on my takedowns, and we took Fight of the Night as you said. It’s nice to have 4 Fights of the Night under my belt. I believe only one other can say that?
Sean Alexander: That’s correct. Juanita Sanchez and you are neck-and-neck with most Fights of the Night. Changing subjects quickly here, there are plenty of women within GCC with 2 losses. In fact, the first title defense for Misty DeMeans is against Jessica House who is 5-2. How does this second loss affect you moving forward in your mind?
Galanos moved uneasily at the phrase “second loss.”
Gaia Galanos: Well, Sean, this is a sport there are no guarantees in, and I’ve had to learn that the hard way over the course of my last two fights. This loss stings, but it isn’t the end. There’s just a bigger mountain for me to climb when I get back. For now, I think I’m going to take a few months off to re-calibrate myself. Once again, I’m very proud of the work House of Khan has been putting in as a whole. That shows in Alexia Amauri worked hard for this W, and I hope it helps her reach her goals. As for me, I have to find a new path to reach mine, and I will.
Sean Alexander: Thanks for your time, Gaia. You’re a class act, and we always enjoy seeing you fight regardless of your opponent.
Galanos nods respectfully to Sean before continuing on her way through the octagon cage door with her cornermen flanking her at all sides. At this point, Sean Alexander heads across the cage to interview Alexia Amauri.
