The faint glow of a computer screen dimly lit the mostly nondescript global gym room being used for GCC. Despite the best efforts of the light emanating from the MacBook, the room still looked like darkness and that was it. A shadow loomed over the bright device; vigilant and watching. Here was Gaia Galanos, one of the hardest working fighters in Global Combat Championships, and this was the proof. To Gaia’s right, a green digital clock read 1:46AM. But, Gaia paid no mind to the depth of the night; her mind was on two women: Krystal Knight and Juanita Sanchez. During the day, Galanos worked on general technique drills and being of assistance to her gym. She didn’t have a fight to prepare for quite yet, but the GCC Featherweight Champion had already begun her preliminary intel-scope of her perspective challengers.
Gaia had seen their fights, but it was imperative she take a much closer look at each. This wasn’t always a process Gaia enjoyed, she admitted candidly. Based on hours of watching film, Galanos had come to the conclusion that she would prefer fighting one fighter over the other but preferred not to disclose who exactly, understandably so. As I spoke briefly with Gaia, I’d like to note that she will be ringside tonight to see her top ranked contenders fight. She even broke her normally stoic manner for a split-second as she flashed her front row ticket for GCC 3 showing us a child-like excitement we wouldn’t usually place with the GCC champion. This was a great opportunity—despite the champion keeping herself busy—to get to know the Featherweight Champion a little better. While she did say she plans on returning to a wrestling ring at some point, Gaia Galanos has made it clear that her focus here and now is to be the GCC Featherweight Champion.
Based on the intelligence of Gaia Galanos as a fighter and a competitor, I have very little reason to doubt anything Galanos claims. Gaia is 2-0 against very stiff competition. She finished Mila Sauvage (3-0 during a one-night tournament prior to their fight!) by TKO to win her title, but now she feels the pressure is truly on her to perform. Gaia admitted that winning her championship was very hard, but her job would only become harder from here. She pointed out that her competition would only get bigger and badder making it imperative to gain a strategic edge on her competition by scouting them as early and as often as possible. With that said, Galanos did mention that she is going to GCC 3 tonight more as a fan than a champion.
